Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is much more powerful than IQ in determining who emerges as a leader. IQ is a threshold competence. You need it, but it doesn’t make you a star. Emotional intelligence can.
Warren Bennis, author of On Becoming A Leader.
What is emotional intelligence?
Daniel Goleman, emotional intelligence expert, has defined it as:
The capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships.
Emotional Intelligence has nothing to do with IQ, how clever you are, but everything to do with how self-aware you are and how you interact with others. Recent research has shown that EI is twice as important as IQ in determining future career success and that our success in work and life is driven far more by our emotional intelligence (EQ) than by our cognitive intelligence (IQ). Please take note that while IQ remains pretty much fixed from birth,
EQ can be learned.
If you choose to raise your EQ, we begin with an assessment using the most comprehensive emotional intelligence assessment instrument on the market today, the
Emotional Intelligence Profile. This gives us immediate insights into a client’s strengths and potential vulnerabilities in 24 different EI competencies. The results allow us to target the most important areas for development first. Once we have identified strengths and weaknesses in EI, we work with our clients to create a development plan for strengthening their emotional intelligence. Over the course of several sessions (and a complete EI coaching program can run six months), a customized plan is developed and used. Clients will receive appropriate worksheets, tip sheets and all the tools they need to accelerate their emotional intelligence.
Throughout the coaching program, we work with our clients on key relationship management skills such as:
- powerful influencing skills
- communication
- visionary leadership
- conflict management
- teamwork and collaboration and
- building trust
- …….. and many more.
This comprehensive coaching program is guaranteed to quickly enhance our client’s awareness of themselves and others, and better manage themselves and their relationships with others.
We would be happy to offer your organization a lively, interactive, and highly informative session to introduce the concepts of emotional intelligence. During this time we can also provide participants with their very own Emotional Intelligence Profile so they can identify their strengths and potential vulnerabilities in EI.
If there is sufficient interest in the topic, we can arrange to bring a series of weekly or monthly one to two‐hour sessions and/or half‐day training modules into your organization on any of the 24 emotional intelligence competencies such as:
- Stress management and resilience
- Powerful influencing skills
- Personal power (a combination of self‐confidence, assertiveness, and an inner knowing that we can direct our lives in a positive direction)
- Creativity and initiative
- Managing conflict productively and constructively
In all, we can provide a comprehensive program that will enhance the emotional intelligence skills of your staff in 24 distinct areas.
